Description

The G54 Billet Rear Wishbone with Powerflex Polyurethane Bushes is a direct replacement and performance upgrade for the original rubber bushed rear suspension arm fitted to Porsche 996 and 997 models. Sold as a pair.

Precision machined from billet aluminium and supplied with proven Powerflex polyurethane bushes, the G54 rear wishbone combines increased component rigidity, more controlled suspension movement and long term durability with straightforward installation.

It is an upgrade designed to retain the fundamental suspension layout Porsche engineered into the car while improving one of the areas where age, mileage and compliant factory rubber can begin to compromise precision.

A Direct Replacement and Meaningful Upgrade

The standard Porsche rear wishbone relies on rubber bushes to isolate noise and vibration while allowing controlled movement within the suspension.

For a road car this provides refinement, but rubber inevitably introduces compliance. As the suspension is loaded during acceleration, braking and cornering, the bushes can deform, allowing small changes in the position of the suspension arm.

As original components age, this movement can increase further as the rubber softens, cracks or deteriorates.

The G54 billet rear wishbone replaces the original component while introducing a more rigid billet arm and Powerflex polyurethane bushes, providing a more controlled connection between the suspension and chassis.

The result is an ideal replacement for worn original arms and a worthwhile upgrade even where the existing components remain serviceable.

More Consistent Rear Suspension Control

Suspension geometry is only as accurate as the components locating it.

Reducing unwanted movement within the rear wishbone bushes helps maintain more consistent wheel position as loads increase. This can give the rear of the car a more precise and predictable response, particularly during harder cornering and rapid changes in load.

The benefits can include:

• More consistent rear suspension geometry under load
• Improved response during cornering and direction changes
• A more connected feel between the rear axle and chassis
• Reduced unwanted movement compared with compliant or worn rubber bushes
• Improved feedback from the rear suspension
• A more precise platform for performance suspension and geometry setups

For the Porsche 996 and 997, where chassis balance and driver feedback are such an important part of the driving experience, reducing unnecessary suspension compliance can make a meaningful difference without fundamentally changing the character of the car.

Powerflex Polyurethane Bushes

Rather than developing an unproven proprietary bush, G54 uses Powerflex polyurethane bushes, combining the billet wishbone with bush technology from one of the most established names in performance suspension.

Polyurethane offers greater resistance to deformation than conventional rubber, helping control the position of the suspension arm more accurately when the chassis is subjected to braking, acceleration and cornering forces.

It also provides an excellent solution for older Porsche models where original rubber bushes may have deteriorated through age, heat and repeated loading.

Compared with replacing the complete arm with another standard rubber bushed component, the G54 and Powerflex combination provides a more performance focused solution designed for drivers looking for greater precision and longevity.

Why Billet Aluminium?

The wishbone itself is precision CNC machined from billet aluminium, allowing G54 to control the geometry and distribution of material throughout the component.

Billet manufacture makes it possible to create a highly rigid component while machining material away where it does not contribute towards the required strength.

This approach provides several advantages for a suspension component:

• High component rigidity
• Excellent dimensional accuracy
• Precise bush and mounting locations
• Efficient use of material
• Low weight relative to component strength
• Consistent manufacture from part to part
• A premium machined finish appropriate to the Porsche platform

Unlike a simple pressed or fabricated component, the billet construction allows the wishbone itself to become part of the suspension upgrade rather than simply acting as a carrier for improved bushes.

Designed to Replace Ageing Original Components

Many Porsche 996 and 997 models are now at an age where deterioration of original suspension bushes is becoming increasingly relevant.

Worn bushes can contribute towards vague handling, unwanted rear suspension movement, inconsistent geometry and difficulty maintaining the precise chassis behaviour expected from a Porsche.

Replacing the complete wishbone provides the opportunity to renew this part of the suspension while upgrading it at the same time.

The G54 assembly arrives with Powerflex polyurethane bushes, removing the need to source separate bushes and press them into ageing original arms.

This makes the product particularly attractive during a wider suspension refresh, geometry setup or chassis restoration.

Straightforward Fitment

The G54 rear wishbone has been developed as a replacement for the original component, making installation straightforward for a competent technician.

There is no requirement to modify an original arm or remove and install replacement bushes separately. The billet wishbone and Powerflex bush combination provides a complete engineered solution ready to install in place of the standard rubber bushed component.

For owners already undertaking suspension work on a Porsche 996 or 997, it provides an opportunity to replace an ageing component with something stronger, more precise and better suited to enthusiastic use.

A full wheel alignment is recommended following replacement of suspension arms or other components that can influence suspension geometry.

Engineering Worth Seeing

Suspension arms spend most of their lives hidden beneath the car, but that does not mean their design or finish should be treated as an afterthought.

The machined billet construction gives the G54 wishbone a clean, purposeful appearance while reflecting the same philosophy applied throughout the G54 range: remove unnecessary complexity, improve function and manufacture the component properly.

The result is a Porsche rear suspension upgrade that combines precision machining, proven polyurethane bush technology and straightforward fitment in a component designed to improve both the condition and performance of the chassis.
